Ozempic®

(semaglutide) injection

A weekly shot to lose weight

Helps you feel full faster, longer

Improves the way your body responds to sugars

Ozempic is not FDA-approved for weight loss, but may be prescribed off-label if a provider deems it appropriate

Ozempic® (semaglutide) injection 0.5 mg, 1 mg, or 2 mg is an injectable prescription medicine for adults with type 2 diabetes used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose). It also lowers the risk of major cardiovascular events such as stroke, heart attack, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have heart disease, and lowers the risk of worsening kidney disease, kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease), and death due to cardiovascular disease in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have chronic kidney disease.

It is not known if Ozempic® is safe and effective for use in children.

Ozempic® works in three ways to lower blood sugar:

  1. Helps your pancreas produce more insulin when your blood sugar is high

  2. Helps prevent your liver from making and releasing too much sugar

  3. Slows down food leaving your stomach

Yes, Ozempic® (semaglutide) is typically covered by insurance for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and chronic weight management. However, coverage may vary depending on the specific insurance plan and the patient's individual circumstances.

Important Safety Information: Ozempic treats type 2 diabetes but may be prescribed off-label for weight loss, if appropriate. Ozempic may have serious side effects, including possible thyroid tumors. Do not use if you or your family have a history of a type of thyroid cancer called MTC or MEN 2. Read more about serious warnings and safety info.

Saxenda®

(semaglutide) injection

A weekly shot to lose weight

Helps you feel full faster, longer

Improves the way your body responds to sugars

Ozempic is not FDA-approved for weight loss, but may be prescribed off-label if a provider deems it appropriate

Saxenda® (liraglutide) injection 3 mg is an injectable prescription medicine used for adults with obesity or overweight (excess weight) who also have weight related medical problems, and children aged 12-17 years with a body weight above 132 pounds (60kg) and obesity to help them lose weight and keep the weight off. Saxenda® should be used with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity.

Saxenda® addresses one of the body's natural responses to weight loss.

The body naturally produces an appetite hormone known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that helps to regulate hunger

Saxenda® works like GLP-1 by regulating the appetite, which can lead to eating fewer calories and losing weight

Yes, Sexanda® (semaglutide) is often covered by insurance for the treatment of chronic weight management. However, coverage may vary depending on the specific insurance plan and the patient's individual circumstances.

Wegovy®

(semaglutide) injection

A weekly shot to lose weight

Helps you feel full faster, longer

Improves the way your body responds to sugars

Ozempic is not FDA-approved for weight loss, but may be prescribed off-label if a provider deems it appropriate

Wegovy® is an injectable prescription medicine used with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity:

  • to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as death, heart attack, or stroke in adults with known heart disease and with either obesity or overweight.

  • that may help adults and children aged 12 years and older with obesity, or some adults with overweight who also have weight-related medical problems, to help them lose excess body weight and keep the weight off

Wegovy® contains semaglutide and should not be used with other semaglutide-containing products or other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines.

It is not known if Wegovy® is safe and effective for use in children under 12 years of age.

Wegovy® works by mimicking a hormone, called GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), which targets areas of the brain involved in regulating appetite and food intake. This can help you eat less, which can lead to weight loss.

Most commercial health insurance plans cover Wegovy, but coverage depends on the specific plan and requires meeting certain criteria, often including a prior authorization from your doctor. Criteria usually involve a high BMI and weight-related health conditions, along with a commitment to diet and exercise. Most Medicare plans, however, do not cover Wegovy, with limited exceptions, so it's best to check with your insurer and doctor for details on your specific situation.

It reduces appetite and how much you eat.
